Summit CREDIT UNION
Two people shaking hands across a desk after a business meeting

Business Banking

Accounts, credit and card processing for owner-operators, with every lending decision made by the team at your branch.

Your credit request is read by someone who drives past your shop

Business lending decisions at Summit are made locally, not by a scoring model in another state. Requests under $250,000 are written up and approved by the business team at your branch. When February looks strange on a profit and loss statement, they call and ask about it instead of declining you over it.

Owned by the businesses we bank

Summit Credit Union has been member-owned since 1948. There are no outside shareholders taking a cut, so the margin between what we pay on deposits and what we charge on loans stays narrow on purpose. Today that structure supports 412,000 members and $14.2 billion in assets across 42 branches, and it is the reason a two-person landscaping outfit gets the same free business checking a fifteen-truck contractor gets.

Practically, that means one banker owns your relationship from the first meeting through the third renewal. They know the deposit account, the equipment note and the card terminal, so you explain your business once. Our routing number is 271982561, and the business line is 800.555.7846 if you would rather skip the form and just talk to a person.

Who we serve

Built for companies under fifty employees

If your bookkeeping runs through one person and you know your customers by name, you are the right size for us.

Trades and contractors Electricians, plumbers, framers and landscapers get paid in lumps tied to draw schedules. We size working capital lines around progress billing and a slow January, then review them once a year instead of making you reapply.
Restaurants and retail Daily card volume and real currency deposits. Business Plus checking handles $25,000 a month in cash, night drop is available at all 42 branches, and card settlements land the next business day.
Professional practices Dentists, veterinarians, accountants and law firms. Practice acquisition, buildout financing and the owner-occupied building often close together, with one set of documents and one closing date.
Trucking and delivery Titled vehicle financing from 24 to 84 months, fuel card reconciliation that exports to your bookkeeping software, and seasonal payment structures for operators who run lighter in the first quarter.
Nonprofits and associations Churches, youth leagues, volunteer fire companies and neighborhood groups. Multiple signers, view-only access for a treasurer, board-ready statements and no minimum balance to maintain.
Manufacturers and shops Equipment notes matched to the useful life of the machine, plus inventory lines for shops that buy raw stock months before they invoice. Advances go up to 100% of the equipment invoice.

Common questions

Before you move the business over

Does the business itself have to become a member?

Yes, and it takes about five minutes. A $5 deposit into a business share account makes the company a member and part owner of the credit union. Any individual owning 20% or more of the business also needs to be eligible on their own.

What should I bring to a first meeting?

Formation paperwork, your EIN letter from the IRS, and a photo ID for every person who will sign. If credit is on the table, add two years of business tax returns and a current profit and loss statement. Sole proprietors can use a Social Security number instead of an EIN.

How long does switching accounts actually take?

Plan on two statement cycles. We open the account the day you visit, then you move direct deposits, recurring vendor drafts and your card terminal over the following weeks. A banker gives you a checklist and keeps the old account open until the last item clears.

Can I keep my personal accounts here too?

Most owners do, and transfers between business and personal accounts post instantly. Personal free checking has no monthly fee, and high-yield savings currently pays 4.15% APY.

Do you work with businesses outside your branch footprint?

Deposit accounts can be opened and run entirely online from anywhere we can verify eligibility. Lending is different: we want to see the building, the equipment or the job site, so credit is concentrated within a few hours of our 42 branches.

Sit down with a business banker

Thirty minutes, in a branch or on video, with someone who can actually say yes. Call 800.555.7846 if you would rather start on the phone.
