Our commitment and the standard we build to
Summit Credit Union is committed to giving every member equal access to our services, regardless of how they read a screen, hear a phone call, or move through a branch. This commitment covers this website, digital banking, the mobile app, our ATM network, printed and electronic statements and disclosures, and the physical accessibility of all 42 branches. We apply the same expectation to services delivered by vendors on our behalf and write it into the contracts we sign.
Our target for digital services is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. In practice that means text can be resized to 200 percent without loss of content or function, color is never the only means of conveying information, every meaningful image carries a text alternative, form fields have persistent visible labels rather than placeholder text alone, and every interactive control can be reached and operated by keyboard in a logical order with a visible focus indicator. Body text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1.
For branches and ATMs we follow the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design. Each location has an accessible entrance, an accessible teller position, and at least one ATM with audio output, a headphone jack, tactile keys, and controls within reach range. Service animals are welcome at every location and we do not ask for documentation.
Access is part of the build, not a later repair
Summit has been member-owned since 1948 and serves 412,000 members. Accessibility requirements are written into design work before a page or screen is approved, and no release of digital banking reaches members without a manual keyboard and screen reader pass. Where we fall short, we say so on this page rather than claiming full conformance.
How we test, and where we are not finished
Automated scanning runs continuously and catches mechanical defects: missing alternative text, unlabeled controls, insufficient contrast, broken heading order. Automated tools cannot judge whether a page makes sense, so we also perform manual testing with screen readers on desktop and mobile, keyboard-only walkthroughs of the tasks members actually perform, and magnification testing at 200 and 400 percent. An independent accessibility audit of the website and mobile app is commissioned annually, and its findings set the following year's remediation plan.
Known gaps, stated plainly. Archived PDF statements and older rate sheets produced before our current document pipeline are not fully tagged for screen readers; we are converting them on a rolling schedule and will supply any of them in an accessible format on request, usually within two business days. Two tools in the calculators section are being rebuilt so results are announced to assistive technology as they update instead of changing silently. Some embedded third-party content, such as a card network's activation flow, is outside our direct control; where a vendor cannot meet our standard we provide an equivalent path by phone or in a branch.
Progress against this list is reported once a year in the annual report, and this page is updated whenever a known issue is resolved. If an item on the list affects something you rely on, tell us; member impact moves work up the queue faster than anything else.
What is available today
Everything listed here is available at no cost and does not change your account terms.
Requesting a format or assistance
Call 800.555.7846 and tell member service which document you need and which format you want. You may also set a standing preference so every statement and notice arrives in your chosen format automatically, without asking each time. Requesting an alternate format never delays a transaction, changes a rate, or affects the terms of an account, and there is no charge for any format we offer.
If you use a power of attorney, a representative payee arrangement, or a trusted contact, tell us once and we will note the account so you are not re-explaining the arrangement at every visit. Members who prefer not to travel to a branch can open accounts, apply through personal loans or purchase mortgage, and sign documents remotely with the same protections that apply in person.
How to report a barrier
If any page, document, app screen, ATM, or branch is difficult or impossible for you to use, tell us. Call 800.555.7846 and ask for the accessibility coordinator, or send the details through contact us. You do not need to know the technical cause; a sentence describing what happened is enough to open a report.
Details that speed up a fix include the address of the page or the name of the screen, what you were trying to do, the device and browser you used, whether you were using a screen reader or magnification and which one, and what happened instead of what you expected.
We acknowledge every report within two business days and give you the name of the person handling it. Most issues are resolved within 30 days; when a fix will take longer we explain why and provide an interim way to complete the task. You will hear from us again when it is fixed, not only when it is logged. Related terms are listed under disclosures and privacy notice. Summit Credit Union is federally insured by NCUA.
